See the Construction Log for more photos.

Spitfire Open Box.jpg (89916 bytes) The box came in the mail all nicely packaged.  Take a good look becuase once you take it out, it never seams to all go back into the box.
The plans come in 3 sections that you have to tape together.  It would have been nice to have some crop marks or guide markings on the plans.  Instead what you must do is "Line up the plans very carfully" as it is described in the instruction booklet.

You also get a step by step book to guide you through the construction.   Along with a decal set for Johnny Johnson's JE-J. You also get the usual price list for Pica Glue, more decals etc.  The one thing I have noticed is that each pica kit comes with a customer feedback card. Spitfire Hardware.jpg (66838 bytes)
Spitfire Hardware.jpg (66838 bytes) There is not really much in the way of plastic parts for the kit.  You get a canopy,  some ABS exhaust stacks and an ABS under wing fairing that is going to tear into a million pieces on the first belly landing the kit has to make.  This will be replaced with something a little more durable.  I doubt it would even stand up to my usual hanger rash.

There is what looks like a complete bag of hardware (wing bell cranks, push rod connectors, etc)

You also get the fixed landing gear.

Notice no cowl, you get to make the cowl out of blocks of wood.

SpitfireWood.jpg (79095 bytes) All of the wood comes nicely bundled with a compete parts list on each bundle.  You even get the pushrods.  The only concern I have at this point is the weight.  There seams to be an awful lot of block wood to build an 8 lb aircraft.

Notice the empenage is made from solid stock.  By building up the empenage I should be able to save some weight.  And potentially alleviate some of the tail heavyness that the kit looks to have.
